Chapter forty One

I was still out for the count when madison returned, I woke when she tripped on her way out of my room.
"Sorry, I didn't want to wake you, I thought I'd come back later"
I yawned, which caused me to flinch again as the air filled my lungs, " no don't go, sit, come talk to me."
She smiled and moved over to the edge of the bed and sat side saddle style, her hands resting on her lap.
"so, how long you been a nurse?" she smiled as she answered,
"possibly as long as you've been a rock star"
"thirty years?"
"Mmmm getting on for that anyway."
I was struck with how stunning Madison was, she had a natural beauty, wore very little makeup, but was impeccable in her appearance and professionalism. I could not deny, I was very attracted to her. A first for me. I was enjoying getting to know her. I don't know why but I wanted to know if there was a man in her life, somehow I was going to ask the question, just how to make it casual.
"bet your family is proud huh?"
"no the opposite actually, see my pa was a surgeon, and a damn good one, I always looked up to my pa and I guess wen they knew I was going to med school to follow in his footsteps, they were over joyed, however it was short lived.  unfortunately a year into med school, my professor told me I had failed the preliminary exams and I couldn't continue. For days I walked around in a daze, but the truth of it was; the training was so intense, the hours uncomprehendable..... revising and studying relentless; which hey I understand if you are letting someone operate on you. I guess when I collapsed, with exhaustion I was able to then put things into perspective. so I decided to become a nurse instead... "laughing she continued, "were the unsung hero's on the back line..."

"wow, a women of strong virtue and independence eh?"

she looked down and smiled...

"not sure about virtue exactly, just doing what was best for me, and not my family..."

"your to be admired."

she blushed... "I'm ok, and its a good job most of the time..."

now I was going to ask, I had to know...

"Bet your man is in the same field?"

"oh there's no one special in my life right now, I'm in between relationships...no desire to go there for a while either... if I am lucky enough to meet someone, It has to be they can give me commitment one hundred per cent and not lie and have a married partner in the back ground...."

"you've been stung bad by the sounds of it."

"yeah, and I didn't learn once, no I went and made the same mistake twice.... I'm a blonde dumb ass."

"no, your human, and a caring person, that's not being a dumb ass, the guys that treated you so bad are the dumb asses..."

"why Mr Bon Jovi, are you flirting with me..."

I laughed, at being caught out... "maybe..."

" well let me tell you as flattering as that is, you are married and just the kind of guy I'm steering away from...thank you;" laughing she continued, "anyway, you really need to rest and I best get back as I have other patients needing my services... but thank you for listening..."

"Pleasure, perhaps we can do it again sometime?"

"MMM maybe..." 

"As friends of course..."

""of course."

I smiled at her, "So will you be by again later?"

as she reached the door and looked back at me she answered, "You never know.. rest easy." then her smile and charm were gone and I was alone once more. Outside daylight had broke and the gentle breeze flowing in my room was refreshing. I laid my head back on the pillow and drifted off into a deep sleep.
