Chapter forty Nine

Ending the call with Kal, it was agreed he was coming to see me, I breathed a sigh of relief and felt a little more relaxed, finally I closed my eye's, when I opened them next Madison was in my room, "Good Morning, I've been in a few times and you were out cold, " reaching for the familiar cuff she asked, Sleep well?"
I nodded, she changed the tramadol infusion, then sat at the end of the bed, "Your mom rang."
"she did? what she say..."
"It was all a little cryptic, but  her message was, "she was with Kal and you were not to worry if she did not visit today?... I know it's none of my business, but who is Kal?"
A frown settled in my forehead just above my nose, as I answered vacantly " a family friend"
"umm right, so why are you frowing?"
"because he was calling to see me..."
"Maybe he's taking your mum out for lunch before they both visit."
"well if that's the case, why my mom ring to say not to worry if she don't make it to see me today?"
I was trying to work but how and why Kal would be with my mom before we had discussed what I wanted...Sure he was a family friend, his whole family were, ever since my ma and pop were in the Marines with Kal's pop; but, the question remained why? When Madison was done with my obs she told me she would be back with my breakfast tray. As she left the room I rang my mom, It rang and rang and rang.... I was about to cancel the call when finally she answered. "Hello"
"mom, what's with the message?"
"good morning Jon, nice way to greet your mom, and drop the tone young man it does not suit you."
"sorry,... morning... Mom what's with your message please..."
"I thought it was clear, I'm going out with Kal today, he rang me late last night."
"He did?, why?"
my mom was getting irked by my questions, "I don't know, is this something I should ask every friend that calls from now on?"
I had to try a different method, I tried being softer, "No of course not ma, it just seems strange that he calls you out of the blue..."
I was getting no where, "really, I have had friends that call me out of the blue many times, and they are always the best calls... now do you want something important, cause I have to make ready to leave."
I gave in, "No, nothing, but Ma, be careful out there ok?"
"Jon, I'm a grown women with three sons, I'm a ex marine, I think I can take care of myself. Now rest plenty sweetheart, I'll see you tomorrow."
She ended the call before I could say anything more. I was real confused, Kal said he was coming to see me, why would he call my ma???, looking at my phone, I dialled Kal's number. He answered quickly, "Yo"
"Kal it's Jon,"
"Hey bro, how's it going?"
"Good, look, my ma said you are going to see her today?"
"Yeah she rang my mom last night, they were catching up and she asked if I could go see her and help with something she had to do today.."
the penny dropped, my ma was shrewd make no mistake, it was clear she had the same interest as I did. "she tell you what it was?"
"no, she said that i'd find out this morning, I'm just leaving to head over there now, want me to give her a message?"
"no, don't even tell her we spoke"
"ok, sounds bit weird, you and your ma ok?"
"Yeah were fine, let's just say we have the same vested interest."
"do what?"
"look, you calling to see me later still right?"
"Yeah, bout six, I guess if all gets done with ya ma.."
"that's cool, look I'll explain later ok?"
"Ok, you da man... "
"yeah right, later bud"
another call ended, I finally could relax, my ma was getting Kal to go with her I had no doubts, and later I'd hear all about it. I'd make sure of it.... I think I could have underestimated my ma...
I laid my head back on my pillow as a smile spread across my lips... now what's that saying... oh yeah "pay back is a bitch" and it was about to meet its best friend.....  Get ready Antonia.....
